App keeps crashing and won't even open after the latest update! Please fix ASAP
This is not reiable enough to use on macOS because it keeps old tasks that were already marked complete on iOS version of the app.
I'd love to use this app on both iOS and Mac--I'd initially purchased it to replace the native Reminders app on iOS due to sync issues. Unfortunately, the sync functionality of this app is consistently poor. Is it something you can fix? Thank you!
i dont got any problems using it, only thing is you can't sync to phone without premium so i recommend just using the phone app.
This app worked great until recently, when it became impossible to create or edit anything on Mac...
This app was great and I used it all the time to be productive. It even helped me get into Stanford. But now, the Pomodoro timer won't reset to rest and the timer doesn't even cover the whole screen. It's a shame. I loved the app and I hope you fix it!!
This app doesn't work and should be pulled from the app store. It's unusable. For example, clicking the settings icon causes the app to crash.
Please FIX this App, guys 🙌 Man, I loved this app. Simple, clean, accessible from MenuBar. I redowlnloaded it on my mac after not using it for a year. Still looks clean/simple with dropown/ syncs with my calendar, but It won't let me create a task. So, unusable at the moment. The "Add Task" button just doesn't respond. I had my brother download it to try it to see if it was just my system, but his "Add Task" button also wouldn't click. I hope the company responds to these reviews and fix the bugs, cause this was great. I'd change this to 5 stars if you guys fix this and make it functional again. 2019 Macbook Pro - macOS Ventura 13.5.2
I use it all across my apple devices and love the widget feature on the ipad and iphone. However, it is a shame that we can't add a widget of the lists on mac. i would really like this feature to come since other apps have it
Can we get a little color on this app?
This is such a wonderful app, so simple, so useful, with great widgets! Also love the Habits app from this developer! I've been using both for years, and they are at the very top of my list for apps to recommend. Recently, new features have been added to Minimalist, which are great, but my app keeps crashing (on Mac) everytime I try to click the settings icon. Its a shame because I've used Minimalist everyday for years, and now I can't really use it on my desktop. If you all ever get a chance to fix this, I would be so grateful!
I cannot get the app to sync from my iphone 14 to my macbook air. This should be simple as i am logged into the same apple ID and have icloud selected on both devices.
This is an amazingly simple and clean task manager. It is very useful and helpful to have. It is nice to have this run in conjunction with my more feature-rich task management platform to provide an alternate for quick planning.
I love this app and I've used it for years but the new interface on Mac is frustrating and overcomplicated. I downloaded this app because it was a bare bones to do list app - i wanted a simple list of items. Introducing extra icons, design elements such as the lines between items, and a permanently visible add task bar go directly against what I was looking for with this app. Highly disappointed with the update and may have to look for an alternative.
great for lists on my phone
Overall the minimalistic aspect of this is great but I do find it frustrating that I can't simply type continuous tasks. Why do I have to swipe down to add a task? And why am I then prompted to add a note and a subtask? I have to close that window to add another task which causes me frustration and risking me forgetting the thoughts I actually need to type. I'm ADHD and while this seems like a petty complaint, it isn't for me. I can lose important thoughts quickly which is why noting tasks in an easy workflow is important for me. Suggestion... Let us type tasks freely. Allow us to swipe down on individual tasks to add the notes and subtasks optionally instead of interupting the flow and prompting us first. With a app based on being minimal, it seems that minimal should come first, shouldn't it? On a more positive note I do appreciate the text size on the widgets. Using the builtin quicknotes widget is pretty useless when keeping the tasks in my line of sight is so important. I can't read theirs, and I can yours. So thank you for that! Also, a widget for the menu bar on Mac would be amazing!
The app update ruins the ability for me to organize my list manually. It also is very large- the old update allowed the screen to be very small and unobtrusive. Please go back to old view/allow people to organize manually.
Didn't sync with IOS app at all
I had high hopes when I found this on the Mac app store, but it's just not as easy to use, as simple, or as intuitive as the iOS version always has been. I realize it's quite difficult to reproduce on a normal computer the beauty and ease of an app built expressly for a touch screen, but the glitches and odd methods just seem underdeveloped. Seeing that this app (at this time) hasn't been updated in four months, I have to wonder if it's been set aside.
This just doesnt consistently work. the iOS version is wondeful so it's disappapointing i cant streamline things by having it on my desktop as well. Today it won't let me add new tasks. Yesterday it put tasks in random lists, not the one I was in. I'm uninstalling and will try again in a year.
As everyone has already said 100x. Great mobile app that Ive used for years - was willing to pay for the desktop app to have it sync with my phone but it doesnt even install properly. Just gives me a spinning wheel and wont let me do anything.
The Minimalist desktop app is garbage. It doesn't sync well with iCloud and the overall UI is just bad. This is too bad because the iOS/Watch variants of this app work well. If the dev would take the time to improve the desktop app, this app would soar in popularity. As soon as Tot's from IconFactory has Apple Watch complications support, I'll be dumping Minimalist all together.
I love the iOS app, but it does not sync to OSX. It brought over 3/4 of my list titles and they are all empty. None of the tasks show up.
The app is great on iOS, but does not sinc with Mac app. Repeats tasks that I deleted, and duplicates them...
This would be 5 stars, but it doesn't sync all lists across devices. Sometime I have one, or another, but not all. And the synced list isn't consistant. Running on iOS and MacOS
This is the last time I'm updating my review and probably the last time I use this app. Just yesterday I wrote about trying to sync changes I made on my laptop all weekend to my phone before work Monday morning, repeadedly using the "fix sync" on both apps. This moring before work it still won't update, so I deleted the app from my phone and reinstalled it - and still got an older snapshot in time that isn't my current work. I know it's a frozen snapshot in time because of a typo on a list name which I immediately fixed and continued working. The phone won't show me anything past that moment in time... which is a big deal. I NEED the current list from my computer on my phone with me at work today! The other big flaw is no way to undo accidental deletions. I accidentally deleted my shopping list on the desktop app and cannot find any way to recover it. This is nearly unacceptable, to not have any way to undo or recover accidental deletions. And ironically it was a different list I clicked on to delete. The lists move around way too easily, seemingly on their own, on the desktop app. It's distracting when I'm moving an item from one list to another and the target list just moves up or down; the item lands on the wrong list. In this case, I clicked on a list to delete it and the lists just happened to rearrange themselves in that moment (I'm sure it has something to do with the mouse hover, but it shouldn't be that finicky) and poof, my shopping list was gone wtihout a trace. No undo. No trash can. I was condintuing to use this app regularly for several weeks and actually came back here to impove my iniital review (a complaint about sync) because it's otherwise great. This could be a really great app... if it worked as expected. Developer - PLEASE fix the sync issue! And please consider adding some way to recover accidental deletions on the desktop app! Thank you.
The sync works perfectly for me with a latency of about two seconds between my computer and iPhone 13. This is an app that respects you––It's not afraid to let you export your lists, so you're not forced to stick with this app as you commit your lists to it. But I've been using it daily for many years now and I love it. Some tips: 1) To create a break in a list you can make an item thats just a period "." 2) A work-around to send items to the top of a long list, make a list called something like "MOVE TO TOP" and drag things into it. Then drag al those items back into the original list and they'll be at the top. I wish they would add a feature to send items to the top of the list.
This is exactly what i was looking for! I paid the $6 for the lifetime VIP greatest choice i've ever made. I love the feature to hear different background noises while having a focus timer on! Syns to my computer and i cloud calendar, works flawlessly. Very happy college student.
yeah, just like others have commented this app has no sync functions between devices which is lame in 2022. get it FIXXXXX.
This tries to connect to Baidu on first launch...
Just updating the reviews that the cloud sync does seem to be working properly now. It updates across the app and mac seamlessly if you have the correct settings turned on. Only 4 stars for having to buy the app again, but for a life time purchase I like it better than a subscription.
Not a reliable application.
The iPhone and iPad syncs but notes does not sync between iOs/iPadOS and Mac! The app seems minimalistic and clean but uninstalled due to syn problem between Mac and iPhone/iPad.
would be good if the sync actually worked, don't spend your money!
I have used Todoist and was not able to sort by draging and dropping. This has worked great for me. I have not had any problems to syc with my phone and computer Easy to use!!! and great on the the IPHONE I do wish there was a way to print or email a list.
can confirm that computer and phone rarely sync and it would be SO GOOD if they did. please fix it
seems more interested in being cute than being helpful.
I was sad to see that the reviews saying this doesn't sync across devices were correct. I'm generally pretty techy, and I could not get it to work. I checked the iCloud settings, I clicked the "Fix iCloud sync" button on both devices, and it never worked. Shame that I even paid for the app on my phone and desktop. After trying and failing, I'm going to be moving to Todoist. Shame, because I really like the simple design of this app.
I originally had this app on my phone and it worked perfectly, when I wanted it on my computer, too, I had to pay for it which was annoying but not terrible. But, once I paid for it on my computer--I assumed syncing it with my phone would be easy...it's not. It only syncs about every 20 times I try, and the info only goes from my computer to my phone (any changes I make on my phone don' t go to my computer). Despite all of that, I still continue to use the app but it's growing increasingly challenging on my computer. In preferences, it says to right click to delete a list (doesn't work) so I have an endless list of old lists I don't want anymore. It also tends to shut down and close mid use. This app is great on iphones but don't get it for your computer.
Bought both the premium subscription and this app so the lists would sync. SYNC DOES NOT WORK. Very upset at this company, considering deleting app just for this.
Is there no way in menubar mode to move the list around the screen. besides that, it seems like I just have to get used to the shortcuts and settings on desktop vs. in-app. it is by far my favourite lising app outside of notes. so I use it more for day-to-day. would love a seamless integration on my Mac so I can get rid of stickies whixh has an awful phone in-app integration.
I purchsed 3 licences of the app. It will not sync across devices (same Icloud acct) Can someone help with this? Quite frustrating wasting time with this....
Do not lesson to the other reviews, they fixed the sync issues and it works great. It is not as amazing as the IOS version but has all the basics.
I like using this app on my phone, so I purchased for Mac to sync across devices. Two things wrong with this purchase: 1. I had to purchase it AGAIN for the Mac after already paying for iPhone app 2. Sync feature does not work. It will only sync the names of lists I have but not their contents, making it completely useless. The in-app help instructs you to enable the app in icloud, and run the in-app debugger if you have issues. The debugger ran for several minutes (strange for such a simple app) and did not resolve the issue. I purchased the app even after reading about other people's trouble with the sync function, assuming it must have been something in their icloud settings configured incorrectly. NOPE. It just doesn't work. Dont make the mistake I did in purchasing this app.
(This is an edited review, mainly because I've learned more about the app as I've figured out, by trial & error, how it operates. I got some things wrong in the earlier review, so I've corrected them.) Buying Minimalist for OSX does not seem to also give you Minimalist on iOS. So you have to make two purchases. What is frustrating about this app is that the most minimal thing about it is the help. Basically, there isn't any, except for a few bare instructions about how to create new items, and how to use shortcut keys. Nothing at all helpful for anyone using a trackpad. I learned by accident that tapping on my trackpad with two fingers pops up an edit menu for both a list and an item. The two finger tap menu also permits deleting. I bought the iMac & the iOS apps to sync to do notes across three devices: an iMac, an iPhone and an iPad Pro. So far the syncing seems to work. And the dropdown menubar icon is useful. There is download syncing with Apple Reminders, which is to say that you can move all items from Reminders, or from a specific Reminders list, to a specific MList. Adding new things to the Reminders list results in a download to the MList involved. But deletions from the Reminders list don't impact the related MList. And (apparently) you can't use Minimalist to add things to Reminders. So basically, you can't have decent coordination between the two apps. There is rudimentary Siri capability - you can select opening and/or adding to Minimalist by Siri command, but it does not actually allow you to input items by voice from Siri - you have to use the internal mike on the Minimalist page. I am being driven to the conclusion that the only real advantage this app has over Reminders is the drop down from the menu bar, and the Pomodoro integration for those who use such things. There's some minimal advantage to being able to swipe between lists. My bottom line is that I have reverted to using the Reminders app.
List names sync, initially, but the list items don't. Cannot delete or add lists. Cannot believe I paid for this, I wish there'd been a trial available. I love the iphone version and I expected for $5 to get at least the same degree of functionality ...really disappointing. I already submitted a review, but I've heard nothing back (hence the all caps title and 1 star review).
I wanted to like this, and bought both the iPhone and desktop versions, but the basics of creating lists and entering info simply are not intuitive ... I can't remember if it is a pull down right left swipe or tap and it's just more hassle than it's worth. Sorry.
Few complaints: Interface looks awful and very cheap-looking. "Dark Theme” for background aparently means paperwhite Can’t change the order of lists like you could in the mobile app But sync apprently does work for me. You do have to turn on Cloud Sync first.
